The frets were cleanly removed and the slots carefully filled, leaving subtle lines across the rosewood fingerboard that provide useful visual reference points. It's a beautifully executed conversion — done so well that when we first inspected the bass, we thought it was a factory fretless.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAnd that's where this bass gets really fun. The fretless neck brings slides, movement and expressive phrasing into the equation, while the P\/J pickup combination and active EQ give you plenty of room to shape the sound — from warm, rounded lows to punchier, more articulate tones. The bass is currently strung with flatwound strings, a natural pairing with the fretless fingerboard that adds to its smooth feel and warm, rounded character. The Fender Custom Shop ’54 set uses staggered Alnico 5 magnets and Formvar wire, with the bridge pickup calibrated for slightly increased output while retaining the clear, bell-like character associated with a vintage-style Strat.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe electronics have also been upgraded with 250k CTS\/Fender pots, cloth-covered push-back wire and a Fender 5-way selector switch.
