From his workshop in Osoyoos, British Columbia, Canadian luthier Hans Schmidt has quietly built an impressive body of work in the world of handcrafted acoustic instruments.
Hans's instrument-making history stretches back to the early 1980s, when he was building classical guitars and Celtic harps in southern British Columbia. His guitars have since found their way into the hands of players and specialty guitar dealers across Canada and the United States.
The Hans Schmidt 25-02 is a beautiful example of his craftsmanship, handmade in Osoyoos in 2025. The model designation tells its own story: 25-02 identifies the second guitar Hans built that year.

At the heart of this instrument is a British Columbia Engelmann spruce top, paired with richly figured East Indian rosewood back and sides. Engelmann spruce is highly regarded among classical guitar builders for its sensitivity and responsiveness, while Indian rosewood has long been prized for its rich tonal character and beautiful natural grain.
An ebony fingerboard, Schaller machine heads, and Hans's Shellax Acryllic top coat finish complete the instrument.
